When the heart catches fire
Mountain fires – a glowing tradition
Once a year, the mountains surrounding Olang are bathed in a very special light: On an early summer evening, usually in June, large fires begin to flicker on the peaks after nightfall – a spectacle that captivates both locals and visitors alike.
These traditional mountain fires are among the most impressive customs of the region. They symbolize unity, community, and a deep connection to old values. The flames are often lit by families or local clubs, who hike up hours in advance, prepare the firewood, and secure their spot on the mountain.
These aren’t just simple bonfires: many groups create glowing symbols – such as hearts, the year’s numbers, or circles – that can be seen clearly from the valley. Depending on the weather, the fires can shine far across the land – and sometimes several mountainsides light up all at once.
💡 A particularly beautiful moment:
From the hotel terrace, you can see the lights dancing high in the darkness – like silent greetings from the mountains. Once you've seen this magical moment, it’s something you won’t soon forget.
